The Olympics and Week 1 Recap

Did you watch Olympics this weekend? I watched Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia grow wings and fly in to win gold in 10,000m in 30min 20.75 seconds.

I just happened to get up at 6am this morning and caught the Women Marathon runners at about mile 13. Those women are incredible to watch. Ehtiopia’s Tiki Gelana set an Olympic record with a time of 2:23:07 , while Shalane Flanagan finished 10th with a time of 2:25:51. Behind her in 11th was American runner Kara Goucher, who crossed the line at 2:26:07. It was the first time the U.S. ever had two women among the top 11 finishers.

I finished my first week of Half Marathon training with 20 miles.

Monday: 3 miles, easy

Tuesday: 6 miles, horrible humidity!

Wednesday: Crosstrain

Thursday: 5 miles, more humidity

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 6 miles, long run

Sunday: Crosstrain

I’m ready to get started with Week 2. I plan to add something real cool from my friend, Road Runner Girl. She is hosting a Burpee Boom Challenge! She wants you to work up to a total of 700 burpees in 4 weeks. Just click on her name and it will take you to her blog with all the details.

Don’t worry that tomorrow is Monday, because it’s a new day and a new week to get started on your goals!
